Business of the Quarter

The DBPA believes that hard work and dedication to our community deserves recognition. That is where the D.B.P.A Business of the Quarter comes in! We choose a business every quarter that we believe best embodies these qualities. These businesses do not have to be a member of the D.B.P.A., just a business that has given back to this community.

DBPA Business of the Quarter
Davis- Watkins Funeral Home

The DBPA is proud to announce that our Business of the Quarter is Davis Watkins Funeral Home. Owners Joel Davis and Travis Watkins are not only valued members of this community, they serve local residents when it matters most. Always willing to lend a helping hand, these two men and the entire Davis-Watkins staff illustrate what caring for a community.

We asked Joel Davis to tell us about this wonderful DeFuniak business. Joel writes, "I knew two things from an early age for certain. Sitting in Comander Funeral Home at my aunt Sharon Spears funeral I decided first, as an occupation, I wanted to be able to serve families in the darkest time of their life. Second, I wanted to pursue this career in DeFuniak Springs which had been my hometown area all my life. I was blessed in my later teenage years to serve under and around some of the best this industry had ever known.

"The wealth of knowledge I gained from Randolph Clary, Jerry Godwin, and Sara Comander proved to be of tremendous value. I went on to graduate with honors
from one of the nation’s top mortuary programs, Jefferson State Mortuary School in Birmingham, Alabama.

"I was blessed to have many opportunities with different funeral establishments, but at the end of the day I wanted to be home. With the help of Travis Watkins, whom I met in mortuary school, we were able to purchase what was Panhandle Direct Cremation Service and convert it into to fully licensed funeral home and crematory.

"My business partner, Travis, had a similar connection to Fort Walton Beach as I did to DeFuniak Springs, so we later opened a location there. Years later we have been blessed to add locations in Crestview, Miramar Beach, and Hartford, Alabama.

"The love and support we have received from Walton County and surrounding areas has been a humbling experience. Doing what I love and was called by God to do is one blessing, but to get to serve in the area where the people of the community have always felt like family is an honor more than words can express."

The DBPA salutes proud member Davis-Watkins Funeral Homes, our Business of the Quarter.
