Business of the Quarter

The DBPA believes that hard work and dedication to our community deserves recognition. That is where the D.B.P.A Business of the Quarter comes in! We choose a business every quarter that we believe best embodies these qualities. These businesses do not have to be a member of the D.B.P.A., just a business that has given back to this community.

Rhodes Jewelers

Once upon a time, a four-piece guitar band in Liverpool, England, known as The Beatles, came to America and changed music forever. A handsome young president was assassinated in Dallas, Texas. The Vietnam War was won and then lost. Astronaut Neil Armstrong took “one small step for man” on the surface of the moon. Disco came and went. Michael Jackson performed a different kind of moonwalk. A movie actor became one of America’s most popular presidents and won the Cold War. Then George Bush became president and so did his son. 9-11 brought tragedy to our nation and launched wars around the world. Today, a billionaire developer and reality TV star is president of these United States.

Through it all, Rhodes Jewelers has stood at 42 S. 9th Street, quietly going about its business of offering fine jewelry, watch repairs, hand-painted china and a variety of popular items. It has become one of DeFuniak Springs’ most enduring businesses.

Clyde and Marylene Rhodes launched the jewelry store after purchasing it from J.W. Ward in 1957. In the mid-1970s, their youngest son, Bruce, became part of the family business. Eventually, Clyde and Marylene retired and Bruce took over operations.

“Rhodes Jewelers has always played an active role in the business community and it still does. Not only have they maintained their excellent business reputation, they have been an active supporter of the DeFuniak Springs Business and Professional Association,” said DBPA President Sara Comander. “We are pleased to recognize Rhodes Jewelers as our DBPA Business of the Quarter and wish them many more years of success. Rhodes Jewelers truly is part of the heart of DeFuniak Springs.”
